Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Arrival – Bujumbura Airport
After arriving at the airport, proceed to Rumonge. The picturesque drive surrounding Lake Tanganyika is the perfect welcome sight. Lake Tanganyika is widely recognised due to its extensive length and diverse biological ecosystem. Enjoy dinner once you’ve settled down, then stay the night at the hotel.

Day 2: Visit Kigwena National Reserve
After breakfast, make your way to Kigwena National Reserve to have a woodland walk and witness chimpanzees and other primates, such as baboons and owl-faced monkeys. Proceed to Tanganyika Blue Bay Resort for lunch and beach activities (tennis court, swimming, boat trips, beach volley).

Day 3: Explore Burundi Beaches

Day 4: Visit the Source of Nile – Karera Waterfalls – Transfer to Gitega
After breakfast, make your way to “the Source of Nile”, a pyramid designed to symbolise the southernmost source of the majestic River Nile. Drive to the Karera Waterfalls afterwards. You’ll travel by gorgeous tea plantations and picturesque locales that are photographers’ dream along the route. Having a hiking lunch in Karera is the best way to take in the four waterfalls and the abundant vegetation surrounding you. Later, head to Gitega for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Explore Gitega Attractions
Gitega, the colonial capital and second-biggest town in Burundi, is renowned for its unique colonial architecture. The National Museum of the Country, which has collections pertaining to archaeology and ethnography, is located there. Discover more about Burundi’s history and get to know the locals by taking a tour of the growing town.

Day 6: Visit Gishora Drum Sanctuary
After breakfast, go to the Gishora Drum Sanctuary. One of the most well-known drum sites in Burundi is this town, which is home to two ceremonial drums that have never been struck. Ruciteme (the one for whom we clear the forest) and Murimirwa (the one we cultivate). The two titles have a strong connection to farming and make clear references to the king’s fertility.
The Batimbo beat ceremonial drums that are often found in everyday use on national occasions. The drum sanctuary is where you may learn about Burundian cultural customs. The location replicates the architectural complex of a classic royal palace; don’t miss the nationally unique drum performance.

Day 7: Visit Kibira National Park – Transfer to Bujumbura
After breakfast, you will be driven to the park. A friendly park guide will greet you when you arrive. Enjoy a midday meal while you see chimps, birds, beautiful waterfalls, and the origins of some of Burundi’s largest rivers. In the afternoon, drive to Bujumbura.

Day 8: Bujumbura City Tour
After breakfast, take in a full day of visiting Bujumbura. Visit Rusizi National Park, take a boat excursion to get up close and personal with hippopotamuses and other wildlife, and ascend the Belvedere Climb for a better view of Bujumbura from the top of a hill and the Independence Hero Monument.
